Come help welcome us to the neighborhood and check out the artwork of Julia Garrison and Renee Sinacola.  There will be complimentary wine and tea, a Paleta Cart. Also, my good friend, Emily, is spinning some tunes to keep the vibe flowing.

Julia Garrison-My art reflects the nature of life itself- from physical to metaphysical, and the environment that impacts it. My hands take on any medium that will grant me the permission to be here now. Whether it be woodworking, pyrography, clay, jewelry, macramé furnishings, digital or physical canvas, even repurposing animal remains and plant life itself. You name it. Like a force of nature, I embody an enigmatic personality trying to find it’s purpose, and aspire to explore that through a creative lens.

Renee Sinacola is a Bay View resident. Her work is inspired by her journey of self-discovery and healing. Through her use of photography, acrylics and mixed media, she shows you a glimpse inside her personal experience, and how her relationship with the natural world and art have guided her along the way. Driven by a need to find herself and help others do the same, Renee seeks to invoke emotion, both positive and negative, and to say things others keep hidden. Renee is supported in her art by her beautiful wife and her 3 adorable furbabies.

In celebration of Pride month, Dr. Michelle is pleased to host: Lidia Sharapova (https://lidiasharapova.com/) “As We Are” photographing LGBTQ people, giving them voice and visibility.

I grew up in Russia where being GBTQ is illegal. This community is denied basic human rights, and it is dangerous for them to be openly who they are, let alone to be photographed.
And while there has been social progress made in the USA, there is still much room for improvement. And the stories of those I have photographed bear witness to this fact.
Photographing LGBTQ people, giving them voice and visibility, I am trying to push back on gender norms that were put on me. I also hope to break the stereotypes and stigmas that have surrounded the community for far too long.
