navigation187 E Becher StWheel and Sprocket’s Bayview location, a 100 year old former lumber industry equipment manufacturing facility complete with cream city brick, massive picturesque windows, a gift shop filled with local makers bike related items and the Joy Ride Cafe, we will be hosting 3 local artists: Bryce Coppersmith (sculpture and jewelry), Daniel Lanza (retro video game inspired mixed-media), and Jill Kenehan-Krey (mixed media and photographs)
Bryce Coppersmith creates sculpture and jewelry using recycled materials including driftwood and sea glass found on the lakeshores of Wisconsin. His work prioritizes simplicity, authenticity, and minimal impact on the environment. His driftwood sculptures add richness and natural appeal to interior spaces, and his jewelry makes a soft and subtle statement for those who love our great lakes. https://www.etsy.com/shop/DharmaDrift
Daniel Lanza was born and raised in Bay View and grew up in the 90’s. He beat his first video game – Super Mario World for the SNES – when he was four years old.
Daniel creates faithful reproductions of retro video game scenes using different materials, though his most important tool is nostalgia. He enjoys the precision and focus of working with papercraft and mixed media, which serves not only as a creative outlet but also a strong form of catharsis.
At BVGN Spring 2023, Daniel will feature pieces from his 2D Shadowbox and Snapshot series.
Jill Kenehan-Krey finds inspiration in all things, “bike” as well as in her surroundings while she’s on her bike, as you’ll see in both her mixed media and photographs.
These 30 acrylic and mixed media pieces are a take on swatches from cycling jerseys that gave her the creative fashion outlet she needed during CoVid. As a whole and in its parts, this work is a “Pastiche” of cycling fashion.
While always having a love and appreciation for the uniqueness and beauty of Milwaukee, seeing her from the seat of a bike deepened those feelings. Our city’s architecture, sculptures, murals, parks and waterways make non-stop rides without photos nearly impossible. On the bike, hidden gems are found in the most unexpected places, like beneath freeways and down alleys.
